A311 Passes! #ArtsEdNow
Governor Christie signed our Grade Weighting legislation into law today, January 19th. The NJ Arts Education Partnership have been working to get his bill passed since 2007.
A311 now requires public schools to weight arts courses (for GPA purposes) equally with courses of similar rigor. Thank you Assm Jon Bramnick, Assm Pat Diegnan, Senator Tom Kean and Senator Teresa Ruiz for sponsoring this bill and providing leadership in our state for arts education! And a big THANK YOU to all NJ arts education supporters for your help!
Thanks also to NJ Principals and Supervisors Association, NJ School Boards Association, NJ Education Association for their assistance with the language in the new law. Also thanks to Ann Marie Miller and ArtPride for their support of this effort.
Earlier in January, both the NJ General Assembly and the Senate unanimously passed bill A311 to require schools to weight arts courses (for GPA purposes) equally with courses of similar rigor.
The Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation wishes to congratulate Bob Middleton and Kristin Wenger for their tireless work in this enormous achievement. Next stop: STEAM education for everyone!
