Monday Morning Meet Your Leaders – Paul McEvily
1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?
Leaders inspire! They have a keen understanding of the mission, have the vision to see the best way forward and, most importantly, have an innate ability to draw out the best in each team member encouraging them to put forward their maximum effort in achieving the desired outcome. Their passion and commitment is palpable and contagious; their energy and spirit indefatigable. Good leaders also realize that everyone has something to contribute and that they don’t have all the answers, they are open to other points of view, they listen and they hear, and they have the ability to check their own ego “at the door.”
2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?
By listening to the voice of the community, by establishing trust, by finding the common ground, by building momentum through collaboration and teamwork while being sure to take the time to celebrate little successes along the way.
3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I’ve been an avid oarsman since my undergraduate days. I love to get up early and get out on the lake for a row when the water is like glass and the noise of the day is yet to come.
4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?
Simply put, my favorite food is anything someone else is preparing and cooking; my talents in the kitchen really shine only as a member of “Team 2” — the cleanup crew!
