Monday Morning Meet Your Leaders – Patricia “Patti” Carlesimo
1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?
I feel a great leader needs to be the ultimate role model for those he or she leads: ensure dignity and respect for the clients served, demonstrate commitment to the mission, ensure fairness and equity at all times, be humble but strong and most importantly have a sense of humor and wonder about life.
2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?
As our tagline reads, our Agency is truly committed to “answering needs and advancing potential” for infants, children and adults with complex developmental disabilities and delays. LADACIN takes our community to the next level by educating the community about people with disabilities. We support those we serve to achieve their maximum functional independence. We facilitate community integration activities so that they become familiar with social, educational and employment opportunities. It is our hope that as our clients spend more and more time in the community, those they meet will see the person first and not the disability. We hope that the babies we serve today will live in a much more inclusive community by the time they become adults.
3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I love to spend time with my 4 (soon to be 5) grandchildren…they are such a gift! I love to read and also like to be active by walking, running, biking, and playing tennis.
4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?
I just got a cast iron pan so my current favorite recipe is a beef and broccoli stir-fry. I love to cook, especially Italian recipes taught to me by my Irish mother in law: stuffed artichokes, marinara sauce, meatballs, etc. and traditional recipes taught to me by my beloved mother: meat sauce, baked chicken and beef stew. Cooking those recipes brings back cherished memories.
