Monday Morning Meet Your Leaders – Pam Capaci

1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?
To me the most important qualities a leader needs to possess are the ability to inspire, motivate and empower his or her team. I believe it’s important for me to know how to build a well-balanced team with complimentary skills, who trust each other enough to generate a sense of ownership for the project/program, to have the confidence to take risks, and to be innovative in thought.
2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?
Hope Sheds Lights is on the forefront of the ‘Peer-based’ recovery support services movement. We are modeling our program growth and delivery after the emerging research and promising practices as suggested by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Hope Sheds Light’s peer-based recovery support groups provide a critical bridge to recovery for many because our certified family and recovery coaches have the ability to meet other community members seeking recovery ‘where they are at’ by relating to them through their shared lived experiences. This, coupled with our 24/7 Helpline for navigation assistance, brings a promising and sustainable model to Ocean County. According to SAMHSA, families and family-run organizations are vital components of recovery-oriented service systems. Family members train and support other families—sharing lived experiences and insights that instill hope, increase understanding, and contribute to systems transformation. Hope Sheds Light believes peer recovery support services have become increasingly central to people’s ability to live with or recover from substance use disorders.
3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I love spending time with my dog, Tully and my granddaughter, Emerson Rose. They are so funny together too. We go on walks and play in the yard. They both fill my life with so much love.
4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?
So my second most favorite way to spend my spare time is to cook. I love trying new recipes and having family and friends over to try them ( they love it too). Even though I have expanded my culinary skills to match some of the eclectic favorites of my go-to restaurants, I still think it’s my mom’s secret meatball recipe that is my favorite recipe. It is my honor to continue in the long standing Italian family tradition of being well known for making the “Best and Most Traditional” meatballs around. So much love and pride goes into making them. Nothing else can compare.
