Monday Morning Meet Your Leaders – Jim Gillick
Scout Executive & CEO
Boy Scouts of America: Jersey Shore Council
1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?
Personally, I think honesty & integrity go hand in glove. Leaders succeed when people trust in them, and believe they have a set of values they adhere to. There’s a reason that at the first two points of the Scout Law are “Trustworthy” and “Loyal!”
2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?
Scouting develops character, builds leadership skills, and instills a sense of positive achievement in young people. By enabling our children to make stronger, ethical choices today, by definition we are laying the foundation for a stronger community.
3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Since most of my times as CEO involves decision making, I try to keep my spare time as unstructured as possible! Spend as much time as I can with family (we love to simply walk the boardwalks & beaches.) As you can imagine I also enjoy just about everything outdoors, like fishing, hiking & camping.
4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?
Whichever was most recent! Lately Shrimp Scampi seems to be the big hit in the Gillick house, although my wife’s meatloaf simply can’t be beat. We’ve also committed to spending our summer developing the perfect Sangria recipe, so that’s been a lot of fun!
