Chief Medical Officer

1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?

I do not think there is ONE important quality a great leader possesses. Great leaders must be able to listen. Great ideas within an organization come from many sources. If one is not open to that there will be missed opportunities for greatness. Leaders who have inspired me, lead by example in work ethic, openness, willing to learn things that were not their expertise and created an environment of inclusiveness.

2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?

The VNA Health Group is positioned to be true leaders of change in how the healthcare community cares for its most vulnerable citizens. Through home care, hospice, palliative community services, visiting physicians and the Children’s Health Institute, we can offer services throughout the continuum of life. The goal is always to improve the quality of people’s lives and keep them healthy and engaged. As leaders, we can also educate other healthcare providers at all levels; nurses, physicians, medical students, professionals in training programs, therapists, etc.

3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I have three main passions: reading for pleasure (not journals, work related, etc), Broadway shows and spending time with my family. My mother is 87 and taking her to a movie and a diner is a great Sunday afternoon to me.

4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?

I am a “foodie” so picking a favorite food or recipe is not something I can do. I am an adventurous cook and eater. I am will to trying just about anything. I grew up in a “meat and potatoes” kind of household. So I tend towards the more unusual now. I am just as happy at a roadside dive as I am at a fine dining establishment. I love to cook (not bake). During the work week, I do not have a lot of time for preparation so I have a lot of “go to” casseroles or simple meals I use. On the weekends, I have more time to cook something more involved.
