Monday Morning Meet Your Leaders – Diane Hutton-Rose
21 Plus, Inc.
1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?
Donald H. McGannon’s quote – “Leadership is not a position or a title, it is action and example.” – captures the essence of one of the most important the qualities of a great leader- Sincerely listen, value your employees and be sure to say thank you, face the future with confidence, give hope through tough times, inspire passion always, take the work seriously but not yourself too seriously, and when it is your turn for kitchen duty, do it!
2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?
21 Plus, Inc. was founded by a group of parents in 1979 seeking meaningful services for their adult children after they graduated high school at the age of 21. Those 8 parents persevered with their ground roots movement and today, 40 years later, we are going strong with over 130 people who benefit daily at 16 programs in 3 counties. We not only provide services to men and women with developmental disabilities to live, work, and play in the community, we employ over 140 of our neighbors, we are regular customers to many local businesses big and small, and we offer the community an opportunity to show its best self through volunteerism and embracing our individuals as valued members of the community.
3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Reading just about anything but especially historical fiction!
4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?
I am the worst cook ever, notoriously bad, however my husband is a wonderful cook and I would put his Chicken Scarpiello up against any restaurant near or far.
