Monday Morning Meet Your Leaders – Colleen Verriest
Colleen Verriest, LCSW
Chief Executive Officer
Family & Children’s Service (FCS)
1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?
I believe one of the most important qualities of a great leader is flexibility. Each day can present a new set of opportunities and challenges. Some we can anticipate, but others are often unexpected. I believe being flexible allows one to shift perspective and access certain areas of knowledge and expertise in a way that is fluid and authentic.
2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?
Family & Children’s Service (FCS) is taking our community to the next level in ways that are allowing adults to age with dignity in their homes with comprehensive support for caregivers. With the senior population being the fastest growing cohort in our nation, FCS is committed to serving and responding to the ever-changing needs of these individuals. One example, with funding from the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, FCS has proudly committed to be a part of the solution when it comes to prevention of abuse of prescription medication amongst our seniors.
3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Spending time with my four year old son is my favorite past time. As a working mom, that time is precious and limited. At the end of the day, he’s my compass and what brings me the most joy in my life.
4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?
My favorite food is sushi! It’s delicious, and no clean up for me! That’s a win.
