Monday Morning Meet Your Leader – Ann Goldman
Family Based Services Association of New Jersey, Inc.
1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?
A leader must be willing to engage in any and all of the work that you’re asking others in your organization to do – even if you deem it drudge work. Leading by example…and being passionate about the mission of your organization.
2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?
FBSANJ empowers families to be active participants in their community, in-spite of difficulties involved in rearing kids with challenges. We work to help families overcome stigma and engage life in positive ways. Our peer support partners provide hope and modeling to families overwhelmed by their children’s difficulties, as well as other curve balls that life may throw at them. By helping empower such families – who are often side lined and marginalized in communities – we help create a more inclusive community – and together we’re always stronger and healthier.
3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Garden and bake sour dough bread. Low tech, low stress, getting back to basics. My kids find this amusing!
4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?
Sour dough bread – it’s simple, it’s natural , it can’t be rushed, it requires attention to detail . I love showing people how to work with wild yeast (yeast naturally occurring on flour, in the air) – it’s slow food – requires time to think – or chat if you’re with a friend.
