  1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?

Being a great leader starts with understanding the community you serve, immersing yourself in a great team, and being the facilitator of positive change. Important qualities of leaders are grit, listening, determination, honesty, positivity, balance, being open, collaborating and respecting others.  Motivating people to “be their best” and improving the quality of the lives around me are priorities.  Due to the nature of my work and love of people, I take my position seriously; however, never to point of excluding humor, camaraderie, or playful competition.

  1. How does your organization take our community to the next level?

It perplexes me that most people don’t feel comfortable talking about mental health. Let’s get real and address this issue.  Asking for help and being honest is not a weakness, it’s a strength and vital for improving our quality of life.  As a leader, it is my responsibility to speak up and challenge the status quo.  Ocean Mental Health Services (OMHS) takes our community to the next level by offering a continuum of services and supporting the needs of our community; from Ocean Academy to integrated healthcare services.  It is a non-profit organization that puts the mental health needs of the community first, one life at a time.  OMHS is a mission driven organization, that I’m proud to be part of.

  1. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Depending on the season, you will find me on a sailboat crewing out of Toms River Yacht Club or chasing down winter with my family all over North America.  Skiing is my passion and I spend as many days as possible carving up turns and smiles.  Contingent upon weather, I typically get in 30-40 ski days per year.  Some people say I’m a ski bum, but I don’t like labels, even though it fits.  I think nothing of driving all night in a nor’easter, crossing our northern boarder, or sleeping in a parking lot just to get first chair on a powder day, while most people are hunkered down in bed with extra milk and eggs.

  1. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?

My favorite food is pizza, however I haven’t had pizza in years. Bread, sauce (gravy as per some of my people), cheese, warm, foldable, fun, and endless toppings…what’s not to love?  I have been following a plant-based diet for quite some time, so unfortunately, real pizza is just a memory.  My wife just made a made a spicy vegan gumbo, which I really enjoyed.  Warning it’s hot!
