  1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?

Authentic empathy – Scripture sometimes refers to this “seek first to understand.” Too many leaders today try to sell “their” solution or framework as the best thing since sliced bread. They have the spreadsheets, PowerPoint slides and flow charts to prove it. True leaders take the time to listen and to learn from their teams. Once people believe that you are willing to listen and value their input; then you can begin the process of coming up with joint solutions.

  1. How does your organization take our community to the next level?

The Ocean County YMCA, like most YMCAs, is often referred to our community’s “best kept secret.” Our YMCA is the largest provider child care serving over 1,000 children during the school year and 400 children during the summer. We have taught over 3,400 children how to swim. We house 7 local swim teams and our own 300-member OCY Tigersharks. Finally, we are the largest provider of wellness programs for seniors and the disabled serving over 3,000 people annually. In total, we serve close to 11,000 Ocean County residents a year!

  1. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Hobby-wise it is a tie between reading and running. However, those pale in comparison to spending time with my granddaughter.

  1. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?

My Bolognese sauce is da bomb! Just ask my granddaughter, she’ll tell you!
