Seeds of Inspiration, East Dover’s Outdoor Learning Center is off to an amazing start.  With the financial support of the Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation we have been able to create an amazing learning area where students think and problem solve like scientists.  Additionally, students use the information that is within the Next Generation Science Standards/ Engineering and Design Standards to explain how to solve problems.

Our project is in its infancy stage as we are in the middle of winter, but we have completed approximately two-thirds of the project.  This summer, we had the assistance of an Eagle Scout and his team of helpers who built our raised and contained beds.

Additionally, our greenhouse was erected and the storage units were built and installed.

As we progressed into the school year, we partnered with Rutgers Master Gardeners, who have provided our staff and students trainings and assemblies on the process of vermiculture and planting.  The three sisters (Corn, Squash and Beans) were planted in the indoor growing area.  During the upcoming months (March and April) students at East Dover will begin planting seeds to produce flowers, herbs and vegetables.  These plants will be transplanted in the Spring.
