Most of us are familiar with the popular TV show, Shark Tank, where tough, wealthy tycoons (the “Sharks”), have an opportunity to invest in what they feel will be the best businesses and products. NJSBA will be using that idea at Workshop 2016 as they launch a STEAM Tank Challenge, letting school district teams compete in creative problem-solving.
The theme of Workshop 2016 is “Recognizing the Value of Every Student” and it takes place at the Atlantic City Convention Center from October 25-27, 2016. The US Army is sponsoring the iSTEAM Command Center with STEAM Tank at the event. NJSBA is collaborating with them and inviting district teams to participate in the STEAM Tank Challenge. The challenge will give students and teachers an avenue to enhance and promote Integrative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) education initiatives in NJ.
The STEAM Tank will challenge school districts to invent something new, change an existing product or discover an issue or situation that needs resolution. If their idea is accepted into the challenge, the contestants must follow specific rules and guidelines. The product or solution will be judged similar to the judging on Shark Tank. Judging will take place live on the exhibit floor in the Integrative STEAM Command Center on October 25 and 26, 2016.
