In October 2010, Jay Grunin had to race up north to bring his wife Linda to a specialized hospital due to severe head injury she sustained from a fall at home. Fortunately, all worked out well thereafter.
Upon reflection, Jay and Linda realized they had the opportunity to end that “race up north”.
Along with their son Jeremy Grunin, Executive Director of the Foundation, they worked with Community Medical Center (now RWJBarnabas CMC) to develop the blueprint of what would become a $3.5 million endowment for the establishment of the Jay and Linda Grunin Neuroscience Institute at the hospital.
Today, the Neuroscience Institute brings together a highly skilled interdisciplinary group of specialists to provide the highest quality advanced care to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases of the brain, the spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Jay and Linda’s “race north” no longer needs to take place in our community.
The Check In:
Since the Neuroscience Institute was founded, Jeremy Grunin has been asked to become a member of the CMC Board of Trustees. As such, he is tasked to help ensure that the transition to RWJBarnabas is achieved while quality outcomes continue to rise.
The Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation endeavors to assist RWJBarnabas Community Medical Center in becoming a regional destination for identified niche services, e.g. neurological and cancer treatment, and to increase high caliber acquisitions and retention.
