The competition is open to Ocean and Monmouth County theater groups who are a 501(c)(3) or a school. Participants must fill out and submit an intent to compete form online and include a five-minute video of the group performing a musical comedy scene by midnight on September 19, 2016. The actors in the audition video must be the actors who will perform at the Giving Tuesday event, if chosen.
Midnight, September 19, 2016 – Intent to compete must be submitted with a five-minute audition video.
September 19 – October 1 – A panel of judges will select the top three audition videos, while the public will vote and send two additional groups to the finals.
October 10 – Top five groups that will perform on Giving Tuesday will be announced.
October 15 – Each shortlisted theater group will submit the musical comedy theater piece they will perform to email@example.com.
October 15 – Each shortlisted theater group will submit their charity of choice with contact details for the CEO, including email and cell phone to firstname.lastname@example.org.
November 29 – Giving Tuesday Theater Group Challenge event where top five will perform at the Grunin Center for the Arts at Ocean County College.
November 29 – Adjudicator’s choice announced after all five groups perform.
November 30 – December 9 – Online voting for People’s Choice Award open until December 9 at 3:00pm.
December 12 – People’s choice award winner announced.
If you are chosen as one of the top five finalists to perform on Giving Tuesday, you will perform a ten-minute scene from a musical comedy of your choice. The performers in the audition video must be the same who will perform at the final event. The scenes will be judged based on the quality of the script, music, acting and singing performances. Production elements such as props, costumes, set pieces, etc. will not be considered and will not affect the contest’s outcome.
By entering this competition, you are granting the Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation a non-exclusive perpetual license to reproduce, display or offer images or recordings of you and/or performances in all media and marketing efforts.
The Giving Tuesday Theater Group Challenge event will take place at the Grunin Center for the Arts at Ocean County College on November 29, 2016. Tickets will be sold for $10 each. Each shortlisted theater group will receive two (2) free tickets. All ticket proceeds will go to the non-profit organization chosen by the winner of the Adjudicator’s Choice Award.
Each of the top five theater groups performing at the Giving Tuesday Theater Group Challenge event has a chance to win a total of $10,000. The winner of the Adjudicator’s Choice Award will receive $5,000 on the night of the event. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will receive $5,000 and will be announced on December 12, 2016.
The deadline to submit your Intent to compete: September 19, 2016, Midnight.
Intent to compete must include:
1. Intent to compete form submitted/ emailed by midnight September 19th.
2. An audition video of your theater group. Performance for audition must be a
musical and contain the element of comedy. Video must not be over 5 minutes.
You can either upload or enter a link to your video below. Video must include the exact same performers who will be performing at the Giving Tuesday event, if chosen.
3. The event will take place on Giving Tuesday, which is all about giving back to our community! Tickets to the event will be sold for $10 each and proceeds will go to a non-profit of the winner’s choice. Please let us know the non-profit you would choose to receive the ticket sale proceeds in the event you are the winner of the Adjudicator’s Choice Award on November 29, 2016. The non-profit must be a 501(c)(3) organization.
4. By submitting and signing the intent to compete form, you agree to be present at the Engage Toms River competition event at the Ocean County College Grunin Center for the Arts on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 5pm to 8:30pm.

The winner of the adjudicator’s choice award will be announced on the evening. The winner of the people’s choice award will be announced December 12, 2016 on Wake Up with Jeremy Grunin on WOBM-AM.
