BBBSOC

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County (BBBSOC) has made amazing accomplishments.  The Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation matching grant has significantly improved BBBSOC fundraising efforts, up 40% from last year.

SCOPE & SERVICE DELIVERY OF THE AGENCY

  • 85 more children are matched today than in September, 2015 – 6 months ago
    • Number of matches increased from 149 at end of September to 234 at end of February
    • This is a 57% increase in matches
    • Net increase of 61 matches in school-based programs, 7 matches in community-based, 17 in workplace-based
  • Waiting list reduced by 43 (from 200 to 157)
    • Occurred even with strong upward pressure from increasing community need
  • Launched school mentoring program for TR’s Walnut Street Elementary with student mentors from Toms River North
    • 65 elementary students currently matched, with 2 on waiting list
  • During a period of significant growth, program quality remains excellent
    • Ranked #1 in Northeast Region by BBBSA for match retention – “The strength is in the length” of the match
    • 85-100% of our Littles have improved or maintained on the 7 target “outcomes” that we measure, since joining the program
    • 100% of our community-based Littles have improved or maintained in “Attitudes toward risky behaviors”
  • Staff additions over the past year have been smoothly absorbed

SUPPORT & FUNDRAISING BY THE BOARD AND OUR “FRONT OFFICE” TEAM

  • Secured a 3 year matching grant from The Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation
  • Weathered the departure of several long term board members
  • Added several new Board members
  • Our major event fundraising has significantly exceeded our past history
    • Annual Appeal – increased 22% over the prior two years
    • Gala 2015– increased 67% over the prior year
    • Casino 2015 – increased 31% over the prior year
    • The involvement of all Board members has made this happen
  • Have begun to build our capacity for major donor cultivation
    • Held a first event specifically for cultivation
    • Planning a second event
